Speak plainly and define your terms
Jargon is a wall. When you say "you just need to fork the repo and open a PR," a newcomer hears a foreign language and feels stupid for not understanding. Define terms as you use them, or better, say the plain version first and the jargon second: "make your own copy of the project, then propose your change back, which we call a pull request." The newcomer learns the vocabulary without being humiliated by it.
Give them one small win
Confidence comes from completing something, not from being told it is easy. Walk a newcomer through one small, real, finishable task: setting up a wallet, fixing a typo in the docs, getting a node to sync. The size does not matter; the completion does. A person who has finished one thing believes they can finish another. A person who has only been talked at believes nothing.
Stay after the meetup ends
The best questions never come up in the group. They come up in the quiet fifteen minutes after the official session, when the shy attendee finally feels safe enough to admit what they did not understand. Experienced community members who linger for that window do more mentoring in those minutes than in the whole formal session. Make it a habit. Tell people up front you will stay.
